Sunday Sunset Music Series Featuring Shane Adkins

It’s the 3rd annual Sunday Night Music Series (August 28th – October 3rd).  It includes four weeks of performers playing music styles that originated from Kentucky-Bluegrass, Jug music, thumb picking and more!  It’s a fun-filled musical experience for the whole family.

Kicking off the series, is Grand Ole Opry performer and International thumbpicking winner, Shane Adkins.

His musical approach reflects his admiration for legendary musicians such as Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, and Doc Watson, yet, he enjoys creating his own sound through original music and popular favorites.

Here is a sampling of Shane’s performance.

Thumbpicking or finger picking began by Muhlenberg County Kentuckian, Merle Travis. This syncopated style of guitar fingerpicking rooted in ragtimemusic in which alternating chords and bass notes are plucked by the thumb while melodies are simultaneously plucked by the index finger.
