Farm animals are at the heart of Blackacre, playing a vital role in our educational programs and the joy our community experiences every day. A visit to Blackacre’s historic homestead simply wouldn’t be complete without them.

Our baby goats, in particular, have a special way of teaching lessons about the environment and farm life—while also melting away stress and worry. It’s not uncommon to see children happily feeding goats their vegetables and discovering that broccoli, apples, and carrots can be pretty great after all. As babies, the goats often curl up and fall asleep on visitors’ laps, creating moments of pure calm and connection. As they grow, they love racing through the fields and eagerly gathering for their Saturday summer feedings of nutritious grain.

Blackacre’s farm education programs also include horses, cows, and donkeys, each offering hands-on learning experiences that foster empathy, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of where our food and care for animals begins.
